Enter the Silence
On what becomes audible once the noise stops.
Spiritual Director · Poet · Teacher
Who am I, and why am I here?
I asked it as a child. I was still asking it at fifty-eight, sitting in a theology classroom. The asking became a garden, a body of work, and eventually the Women’s Center for SoulCARE — a place where other women could come and ask it too.

Meet Janie
In 2008 my husband Don and I planted a church. Some years later we walked away from it, and I found myself with a calling I could not name and no obvious place to put it.
So I went back to school. I earned a Master's in Pastoral Theology from Loyola Marymount, with a concentration in spiritual direction, at fifty-eight years old. I had spent decades in business before that — founding an inspirational gift company, consulting, raising two sons — and none of it was wasted. It just wasn't the whole thing.
For ten years I served as spiritual director to Ziglar Family International. I've written three books, and contributed to a fourth that became an Amazon best seller.
What emerged was poetry, and out of the poetry came the Seven Sacred Signposts — not something I set out to build, but something I kept noticing, in my own life and then in the lives of the women I sat with.
Today I serve as a spiritual director, teach, write, and co-lead Hidden Life Ministries with Don. And I founded the Women's Center for SoulCARE, which is where this work is practised in community rather than alone.

The Women’s Center for SoulCARE helps women awaken to the life of their soul, deepen their relationship with God, and live whole — from the inside out.
A Christ-centred space in a garden in Carlsbad, California, and online: monthly gatherings, a women’s collective, retreats, and a two-day immersion each autumn. Some of it is free. All of it is unhurried.
